RE: Taxable benefits as an Employee
Hi dcj447
If your employer has ‘payrolled’ your benefits and expenses (this means the tax was deducted from your pay and included in your P60) do not include them in boxes 9 to 20 on the Employment pages of your 2023/24 return.
This information can be found in the Self Assessment: Employment (SA102) Notes under Box 8 entitled Benefits from your employment.
Thank you

RE: Benefit In Kind
Hi Kenneth taylor
You can contact HMRC at Income Tax: general enquiries and ask for the BIK to be removed from your current year code as well as for 2023/2024.
For 2024/2025 any refund will be made by your current employer when the new code is used.
The BIK will be reviewed for 2023/24. This will be partially due for period 06/04/23 till 30 April 2023. You can ask that a tax calculation is issued alongside any refund due. We will advise if any other information is required that may prevent this being issued.
You can use your Personal tax account: sign in or set up to check your latest codes, manage your details and check progress of any correspondence.
This can also be reviewed through the HMRC App.
Thank you

RE: Self Assessment and Class 2 NI
Hi Bradley Chambers,
If you submitted an application in early 2024 then you should have received confirmation, in writing, of whether or not the application has been successful and the next steps to take.
• You can check your Personal tax account: sign in or set up (PTA), which will show the date you submitted the application to cease Self Assessment. The status message will display the stage your request is at.
• At the point that HMRC actions your request, the status message will show as completed and remains on your account for two years.
• We would write you a letter to confirm that the Self Assessment record is closed, or if we need more details from you. If you have not received a letter and it has been more than three weeks since you submitted the online form, then customers should check their PTA before contacting us by webchat Self Assessment: general enquiries
• Customers can access their PTA using their HMRC online account or the HMRC app.
If your Self Employment ceased between the 06 April 2023 and the 5 April 2024 then you will still need to complete a tax return for that year and the Class 2 National Insurance due will form part of that calculation. That tax return has to be submitted along with any tax and National Insurance due by the 31 January 2025.
Class 2 National Insurance is payable through Self Assessment.
Class 1 National Insurance is payable through PAYE via your employer
Thank you.
