RE: Mortgage Interest not included in the online return 23-24
Hi Dave,
The costs of getting a loan, or alternative finance to buy a residential property and any interest on such a loan or alternative finance payments can be used to calculate a reduction in your Income Tax. If you have no income tax to pay then there is nothing to be reduced.

RE: Repayment of Maternity Pay
Hi hlnburton,
Recovery of an unintentional overpayment of salary, which occupational maternity pay is classed as, is from the difference in net pay, this is irrespective of whether it is for the current or previous tax year. Once the repayment has been agreed and proper arrangements are in place to recover this, and evidence kept to demonstrate how the recovery was made or is being made then the employer can adjust the RTI information. More information can be found at 1.19 of CWG 2 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cwg2-further-guide-to-paye-and-national-insurance-contributions/2022-to-2023-employer-further-guide-to-paye-and-national-insurance-contributionsat

RE: PAYE Basic Tools overpaying Director tax and FPS confusion
Hi Helen Carrick,
Without being able to look into your account we would not be able to offer any solutions. It is possible that because of the way your account was set up the system has treated your annual payment as if it is due to your each month and calculated the tax accordingly. Please contact us on 0300 200 3200 to discuss this in more detail.

RE: PAYE REGISTRATION
Hi ltdqueries,
If employees are paid below the lower earnings limit, arent being providied with benefits in kind, do not have other paye employments/pensions and are not receiving taxable benefits such as state pensions then you would not need to register a PAYE scheme or submit Real Time Information.

RE: Tax on Gift from aboard staight to Stock/Shares ISA
Hi Sylvio HARDEL,
There are no income tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends. These would then potentially be subject to tax.
Further guidance can be found here (Tax on savings interest and Tax on dividends).

RE: Costs
Hi Christina28,
If the property is rented out you can claim expenses for general repairs and maintenance and set them against the rental income, in the tax year that they arise, as they are revenue expenses. They cannot be claimed against capital gains, if the property is disposed of. If this is your main residence, then there is no relief available.
Thank you.
