RE: National insurance contributions after moving abroad
Hi,
As you have advised that you have permanently left the UK, your employer should automatically stop deducting class 1 National Insurance contributions from your salary and you may pay voluntary contributions to maintain your National Insurance account for pension purposes.
Details of National Insurance contributions for periods overseas can be found in our leaflet NI38 ‘Social Security Abroad’ which you may download from https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/social-security-abroad-ni38
Thank you. -

RE: payment of voluntary class 2 NIC contributions from abroad
Hi Peter Livingstone,
Our International Teams advise an individual to contact The Pension Service Future Pensions to make sure that it is worthwhile to pay the voluntary National Insurance contributions that they quoted in their letter.
If The Pension Service advise that it is worthwhile then that will be fine as sometimes it is not worthwhile to pay.
Thank you. -

Once a payment has been allocated this will not update automatically if it is incorrect, a caseworker or adviser will need to assist further with this query and you will need to contact the National Insurance Department.
You can contact them by the following means:
You can Speak to an adviser on 0300 200 3500 from the UK or +44 191 203 7010 if calling from abroad
You can use the webchat function ‘ask HMRC online’ Ask HMRC online
You can also write directly to a caseworker at:
PT Operations North East England
HM Revenue and Customs

When submitting your correspondence, kindly provide your National Insurance Number, full name, current address, a contact telephone number, and a brief
explanation of the purpose of your letter.
Additionally, please remember to sign and date the document, even if it is printed.
If you have completed a call back request form, you will be contacted by the DWP.
They aim to call you back within 8 weeks from the day you submitted your request.

RE: How to Pay Voluntary National Insurance Contributions from Abroad
Hi Homeagainnow,
If you are looking to make payments for periods you were living outside the UK you need to fill in the form CF83, our advisers can not give payment requests over the phone for such periods.
You need to read through the guidance NI38 which will help you complete the form CF83.
You can find the NI38 here: Social Security abroad: NI38 - GOV.UK
Once you are ready to apply you can use this link to complete your CF83 application.
Apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions when abroad (CF83)
If you have not sent in a CF83 form before the 5 April 2025 deadline your payment slip will not contain the details to make payment for any year before the 2019 to 2020 tax year.
Thank you.
