RE: Confused about paying NI shortfall. How to get 18 digit reference number
Hi Brian,
As you are over UK State Pension Age, I can confirm that the International Pension Centre would be able to check your National Insurance account and let you know the amount of voluntary contributions that you may pay to improve your entitlement to a UK State Pension. From the details that you have given, it would seem that you have spoken with International Pension Centre so they will be in touch with you. Just to confirm their telephone number is 0191 218 7777.
Thank you.

RE: Incorrect National Insurance Number (Customer Service Never Available)
Hi Ccarlisle29,
We will be able to trace for the contributions that were paid under the wrong National Insurance Number by using the P60s that you’ve said that you sent to us and arrange for them to be transferred to your correct Number. Once our Team has done this they will write to you to confirm what they have done and will quote the National Insurance Number that you should use from now on.
Once the contributions are recorded on your correct National Insurance account, you may wish to obtain a State Pension Forecast via: Check your State Pension forecast This will detail your current and future entitlement to a UK State Pension.
Thank you.

RE: Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi franceuk76,
Thank you for your further query.
Yes, you can definitely use the same reference number for both class 2 and class 3 National Insurance contributions, and your reference number would be your National Insurance number followed by IC then your surname and initial.
Thank you. -
