RE: Should I remain registered as self-employed when I become employed?
Hi Alexandra,
Entering an estimate under £1000 may tell you that registering as a Sole Trader is unnecessary, as your income falls within the Trading Allowance of £1000.
If you are uncomfortable entering an estimate over £1000 to complete your registration, contact us by webchat or phone via Self Assessment: general enquiries- we can complete your registration without an estimate, and advise your further on completing your return.
Registering your business under your own name will have no advantage or disadvantage over registering under a created business name.
Thank you. -
RE: Do I need to complete self assessment if I am not a TR?
Hi,
If you were not a UK resident in 2023/24, you would not generally have to pay UK tax on your foreign income in that year.
You can read more here:
Tax on foreign income
If you would like us to confirm whether tax was due on any of your income, contact us by webchat or phone via:
Tax on foreign income.
Thank you. -
RE: P85 "Date you left the UK" ?
Hi Ashly,
If you received P45s for both your NHS and NHSP employments, then use the P45 for the employment that you left most recently when completing your P85.
If you complete a Self Assessment return to declare your NHSP income, then you do not have to complete a P85 - send us a paper 2024/25 tax return, along with SA109 Residence pages, after the 6th of April 2025.
Tax if you leave the UK to live abroad.
Thank you. -
RE: First time registration as self employed
Hi,
If you have received confirmation of your application, then you should receive your UTR in around 4 weeks.
If you have not received your UTR after this amount of time, please contact us by webchat or phone via:
Self Assessment: general enquiries.
Thank you. -

RE: VAT and Transfer of a going concern (TOGC)
Hi,
You will not need to apply for the VAT number after the btransfer takes place but you will need to state the date that this btransfer takes place on.
If the seller is cancelling their VAT registeration number as a consequence of the TOGC then we would normally expect their cancellation date to match the date that you select on your Registration application..
As you are not taking on the previous VAT number please select No to this option.
Thank you. -
RE: VAT 5% reduction on plot of land
Hi,
If a new residential property is being built from scratch then it would benefit from the Zero rate of VAT if the conditions are met below:
3. Zero rating the construction of new buildings.
Thank you. -
RE: Cannot deregister from VAT
Hi Emmetartist,
I would complete a paper VAT 7 and if there is insufficient room on the form then I would include a cover letter explaining that you are no longer a NETP and please provide your UK address so that we can correspond with you.
Please see form below:
Register for VAT.
Thank you. -
RE: VAT Query
Hi,
If you belong in the EU and you are providing Business to Business supplies to UK customers then the VAT would normally be subject to the reverse charge by your customer and so there would be no requirement for you to register for VAT in the UK.
Please see below:
5. Reverse charge.
Thank you.
