I've completed tax return yesterday, input everything I earned PAYE and SA, including taxes paid.
I've put in the amount of expenses that I had to pay over the year, however it isn't showing any sort of refund, just tells me I owe a small amount of tax when my expenses were more, does anyone know why?
Thanks

Hi gman90
Unfortunately the forum doesn’t have access to your tax records.
You should look at the tax calculation that has been produced in relation to the entries on your tax return.
Please see the guidance at:
•    HS227 Losses (2024) or
•    HS227 Losses (2025)
if your expenses against self employment exceeded your income from that source in the appropriate year.
If you have any further queries please Contact HMRC
Thank you

Not HMRC...just because expenses are more doesnt mean a repayment is due. If your turnover is also more then more expenses could still lead to a higher profit if expenses havent increased by the same mount of turnover, also, PAYE may not have deducted enough tax (PAYE being operated does not mean that its necessarily right, could be numerous reasons why PAYE didnt deduct enough tax). The tax calculation takes in to account income from all sources so could be a miriad of reasons why there isnt a repayment and you owe a small amount.
