Question : Spanish tax authorities need to see a certificate of residency covering 2019 & 2020 I´m trying to request this online. On the online form, it says " date of return to the UK" and I cannot move further, since I am still based overseas and need a historical certificate. Is there any advice on this? Thanks

Hello, I submitted a certificate of residence request for four countries more than a month ago: Italy, Portugal, Spain and Japan. I have only received a certificate for Spain (this came within a week), but not the others. Do I need to submit a separate form for each request? How can I check the status of this request? Thanks,

Hi
Yes a separate claim is required for each country as you need to specify the income and amount received for each.

Hi I recently requested for a certificate of residence in the UK. My GOV.UK account shows that my status is COMPLETED and provides me with a unique reference number. However, I have not received the actual certificate of residence (for tax purposes) neither online nor via post. What should I do?

I requested and received a certificate of uk fiscal residency from hmrc relevant for the USA, BUT it looks very basic with no address heading for HMRC on the certificate and I have repeatedly sent this to Google for their ad / youtube revenue payments and each time it is rejected by them saying it is not a proof of residency. HELP.

Is anyone from hmrc actually on here? I need this sorted with Google by year end to avoid paying extra tax.

Hi,
Once you apply through the following link, the relevant letter or certificate will be issued and is stamped by HMRC and should be accepted by the foreign authorities. If not, you will need to send a copy of their refusal letter for this to be escalated.

Thanks for your reply. I of course obtained the certificate of residence via that online hmrc link. The certificate was posted to me. I would like to show it here, but can’t see a way to attach. Do you have any email for getting help on this? When submitted to Google online their repeated response was that it wasn’t a valid proof of residence certificate. The certificate hmrc sent was not what I would consider a proper document as it was had no hmrc address on the heading of the piece of paper, all it had was HM Revenue & Customs. Also it was signed by some random person MR J E Goble with no title, address, dept or tel no. The ‘official stamp’ was just a typed: HM Revenue and Customs Personal Tax 10 October 2024 Please help further as this ‘certificate’ doesn’t look very official. So not what I or Google would call a stamp.

Hi,
This is the standard reply that is sent out when you apply for the certificate and is normally accepted. You will therefore need to send in a copy of the rejection letter you received for this to be escalated.
Thank you.

Ok, the rejection I received was via email and was the following, so please escalate: “Additional tax residency tax information required We were unable to accept the following document you submitted: Proof of United Kingdom tax residency This may have happened because the document: Isn't a tax residency certificate or accepted tax residency document [ Learn more about accepted tax residency documents ] To make sure we can accept your tax residency tax status, and you're able to claim any tax exemptions you might be eligible for, submit a document as soon as possible. Make sure the document is clear, not missing any information, and a type we accept. The document must also match the information on your payments profile and the tax information you've submitted. ”

Hi,
A certificate of residence is only appropriate when the benefits of the double taxation treaty are being claimed. When an individual is required to provide evidence to an overseas authority that they are resident in the UK for tax purposes to meet a requirement of an overseas countries local law, then we will issue a letter of confirmation of residence. A certificate of residence or letter of confirmation of residence, is requested by completing the form here:
