I would like to pay my gaps to reach 10 full years of contribution. The missing gaps are between 2015-2017 and my record showing that I can pay around £824 per year. I tried for hours to speak to someone on helplines, future pension line, HMRC line without any luck or assistance whatsoever. I would like to pay lump sump for those 3 years, Can this be done via bank transfer as stated on your website with reference included my NI number following with IC. I'm worried I wont be able to reach anyone through the lines to obtain the 18 digit reference number. I would like to make this contribution from UK, British account not from abroad. Thanks for your help.

Hi Michaela Pitrova,
You must first speak to DWP (Future Pension Centre) before making any voluntary National Insurance payments to HMRC, if you are unable to get through on their helpline then you can request an interest in paying by completing the call back request form.
When you have had confirmation from the DWP of which years and how much you need to pay and that the payment will benefit your State Pension, then you can contact HMRC.
To be able to make a voluntary class 3 payments from a UK bank account you must use an 18 digit reference number.
We are experiencing a high volume of calls at the current time but we are taking measures to reduce the wait times.
The quietest time to call is the first and last hour the phone lines are open so between 8-9 am and 5-6 pm.
If you are unable to get through on the helpline to get your 18 digit reference number then you can contact us via webchat, please find the link below:
Contact HMRC
Alternatively, you could pay via cheque and if you do not have an 18 digit reference you can write you National Insurance number on the back of the cheque.
You must make the cheque payable to 'HM Revenue and Customs only' and along with the cheque send in a cover letter with the following information:
•    your name
•    your address
•    your phone number
•    your National Insurance Number
•    what the payment is for - Class 3 National Insurance
•    the period you are paying for
•    a request for a receipt - if you want confirmation of the payment

The address you will need to send the cheque into is:
National Insurance Contributions & Employer Office
HM Revenue & Customs
BX5 5BD

Thank you

Hi, my record is now saying its to late to contribute for my gaps in 2015-2018? Can I still pay online, I'm trying to contact future pension and HMRC for month or so and I still haven't received any call back even though I registered weeks ago for call back. Many thanks

I have previously contacted both HMRC and the Future Pension Centre regarding gaps in my National Insurance record for the following tax years: 2015–2016; 2016–2017, 2017–2018 I would like to make voluntary Class 3 National Insurance contributions for these years to ensure that I have at least 10 full qualifying years towards my State Pension entitlement. However, I have not yet received confirmation as to whether paying for these specific years will increase my State Pension. I understand that such confirmation must come from the Future Pension Centre before HMRC can provide the 18-digit reference number required to make the payment. I kindly request written confirmation on whether making voluntary contributions for the above tax years will contribute towards increasing my State Pension. Once confirmed, I will proceed to contact HMRC to obtain the necessary payment reference and arrange payment. Thank you

Hi,
Everyone who submitted the callback form can be assured that DWP will call them back and any payments they subsequently choose to make will be treated as having been made within deadline.
There is no further need to contact DWP or HMRC.
DWP will contact people who filled in the DWP callback form, prioritising those at or nearing State Pension Age.
Thank you.
