RE: Can I make a voluntary NI contribution after claiming my state pension?
Hi Misterpee2 Padley,
You can still voluntary pay any past gaps you have after you reach State Pension Age on your record between 2006 and your Final relevant Year.
Your Final relevant year is the last full tax year before you reach state pension age.
For Example if you reach State pension age on 27/09/2024 your final relevant year would be the tax year 2023-2024 as a tax year runs from 6th of April until the 5th of April.
nfortunately you can not pay any future years after your State pension Age.
Thank you.

RE: Address for HMRC when paying NI class 2 from abroad
Hi Brighton2023,
In order to pay NICs voluntarily for a period outside of the UK, you need to complete a CF83 application form.
This form asks which Class of National Insurance you are applying to pay.
From what you have said, it sounds as if you applied to pay Class 3 NICs?
Without being able to check your record we are unable to give a definitive reply.
Can we suggest you contact the NI helpline on 0300 200 3500.
Lines are open 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday.
National Insurance: general enquiries
They will be able to view your original application.
Thank you.

RE:Final tax year before State Pension Age
Hi LEUNGCCP,
You would need to pay a full year’s worth of voluntary National Insurance contribution’s for that year to count as a qualifying year for pension purposes.
You cannot pay for any periods after you have reached state pension age as these periods would not count towards your pension.
Based on the information you have provided, the last full year that would count towards your pension, would be the tax year prior to the year in which you reach state pension age.
Thank you. -
RE: I paid class 3 for one too many years as I am now eligible for class 2.
Hi Alan,
You state that you are eligible to pay Class 2 NICs because you have inherited a share in some property.
This is not necessarily the case.
The National Insurance manual here:
NIM74250 - Class 2 National Insurance contributions: special cases: property and investment income
Explains the criteria to be eligible to pay Class 2 NICs because you have income from property investment.
If, after reading this, you feel you are eligible to pay Class 2 NICs, you can register online from our website or by calling the NI helpline on 0300 200 3500. Lines are open 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday.
Thank you.

RE: proving I'm not covered by UK social security
Hi Jeff,
There is not a letter we could issue that would show you were not covered in the UK.
The best option would be to apply for an A1 and S1 from the UK, or to write to us outlining your circumstances and ask for a liability decision.
If you aren’t, and should notbe paying UK NI, then a letter will be issued stating you are not liable in the UK.
Thank you

,RE: Pay back NI for not full year
Hi khkchan,
Before deciding to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions, first obtain a State Pension forecast before deciding to pay.
The forecast will detail your current and future entitlement to a UK State Pension.
You can obtain a forecast here:
Check your State Pension forecast
If, after you’ve received your State Pension forecast, you wish to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions and you are in the UK, please call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 and they will be able to give you our bank details and an 18 Digit Reference Number to use when making a payment.
National Insurance: general enquiries
If you are overseas and wish to pay voluntary contributions after receiving the State Pension Forecast, then please read our leaflet NI38 ‘Social Security Abroad’ and then complete and return our CF83 application form.
These may be found here:
Social Security abroad: NI38
Thank you.
