  • RE: payment of voluntary class 2 NIC contributions from abroad

Ré paying for NIC shortfall-years: The reply letter accepting my application to pay voluntary class 2 NIC contributions (in response to my CF83 form) includes the phrase "you need the Pension Service to confirm whether your State Pension will increase if you pay any shortfall". What form should this "confirmation" take? I called Future Pensions and the worker there told me verbally that each year of paid shortfall (£163.80(corresponds to an £6.83 per week in pension. Is that enough confirmation? I don't wish to pay for 18 years of shortfall if it has no effect on my pension.
