Temporary non residence
Hello I am British and lived in Thailand for 7 tax years. I returned to UK last month and becoming UK tax resident again. I earned interest on my UK bank accounts while I was in Thailand. I also made some profits on crypto and stocks while I was there and all the profits are in UK. I did not transfer any of these interest and gains to Thailand and they are still in my UK bank account. Question: As I was non resident for more than 5 years, do I have to pay any UK tax on these interests and gains ? Thanks Sid -
British born abroad sending money from birth country to UK
Hello Someone british born in Iran, lived in UK for 45 years, resident in Thailand since mid 2023. Some questions regarding bringing money from Iran to UK. Full sources of money in Iran: 1) unsold Property inherited from parents. 2) money inherited from parents and kept by a member of family in Iran. 3) money sent to Iran from UK in order to help family members who want to return it to UK account. 4) unsold property bought in Iran using income sent to Iran from work in UK Could you please advise on each above case (separately please) if tax needs to be paid (and how much) when proceeds are sent from Iran to bank account in UK. What would be the effect of the new budget on these tax payments? Please note: money sent or received from Iran is done by swap transactions using legal exchange currency agents in London. For example pound is given to an agent in London and local currency is received from agent in iran and vice versa. Thanks Sid
