Once my self assessment return is completed and submitted for 2023/24 will HMRC tell me if I have to make on account payment by end January 2025?

I'm sorry but this doesn't answer my question. Am I expected to do the 80% calculation or will HMRC advise me that I have not met this figure? Thanks.

If you are filing online (presumably the case at this time of the year), it tells you about payments on account, if any, as part of showing you your calculation immediately prior to submission.

Hi AnnHarrison,
Any payments on account (POAs) calculated should be displayed as soon as you file your tax return, and be available to refer back to on your personal tax account thereafter. If you cannot see any POAs and were expecting them, you will need to contact our Self Assessment team so we can confirm if POAs are present and due.
Self Assessment: general enquiries
Thank you.
