In October, I paid my tax through my PAYE account. Afterwards, I realized that foreign tax was not included, so I created a Self Assessment account to report the additional income that needed to be taxed. Currently, my Self Assessment account shows that I owe the entire tax amount again, including what I already paid through PAYE, in addition to the new tax liability. I contacted your support team twice for assistance: The first time, I was told that the internal refund team would be contacted. Once the refund for the amount already paid was processed, I was advised to pay the total amount due via Self Assessment. However, after a month, no changes were made. The second time, I was informed that I needed to manually update my Self Assessment account by entering the amount already paid so it could be deducted from the total liability. The representative explained that the PAYE and Self Assessment systems are not interconnected, so the Self Assessment team is unaware of the payments made via PAYE. Unfortunately, the instructions provided were unclear. I was told to "find the section where it mentions refund" but wasn’t guided on where or how to make this adjustment. I have tried to follow these instructions but cannot locate the specific field to enter the amount already paid for the 2023/2024 tax year. Could you please provide clear and detailed steps on how to amend my Self Assessment document or otherwise resolve this issue? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
