Hello I have had a self assessment log- in for my tax return submission that I have used successfully for the past 15 years. I tried to log onto this portal in September and it said I was unable to log-in and was locked out after 5 attempts. 25th September I rung the HMRC online service help number and the lady on the end advised that she tried to log into my account and could see it had been blocked by HMRC, but she didn't know why. I was given a specialist case number and told that the team would ring me back on a withheld number to unlock my account. The log and short is I have rung this number back numerous times to update what is happening with this, but nearly 3 months on and no-body has rung me back so I am unable to submit my tax return. I rung again on the 4th December complaining no-one has still rung me and was worried I would be fined by HMRC for missing submitting my return through no fault of my own. I even asked to submit a manual paper return, but the advisor explained that this was too late now as the deadline for this paper submission had passed. Instead, she suggested that I wrote to HMRC (PAYE self assessment BX9 1AS) explaining my frustration and situation and asking for someone to contact me to resolve. This letter had all my necessary details including NI and UTR number, phone number, email. She advised me to ensure this letter was sent by the signed and tracked method so I knew HMRC had received this letter. I duly did this and the letter was dated 4th December and I have confirmation of it being sent to HMRC with a tracking reference through the Post Office. When I now check the post office track and trace ( 2 weeks on) there is still no notification that this letter has been delivered to BX19 1AS and signed for. On further investigation with the Post office and reviewing queries on the subject of HMRC signing for post online, it seems that HMRC receive numerous letters and my letter may not be scanned until many weeks later by HMRC as received. So where do I go now with HMRC and what are they going to do to resolve my issue with a tax deadline of 1 month away? It is not my fault that I cannot submit a return and the deadline will be fast approaching for submission of tax returns but I am still waiting for HMRC specialist team to call me back 3 months later. When I ring up none of the HMRC advisors can give me a deadline of when this will be resolved and a date by when someone will contact me? I even resorted to writing a signed for tracked letter that has cost me money and I can't be assured that HMRC have even received this in a timely manner? Please do not advise to use the contact details stated online to re-log on/when you forget your password as this is not my issue and it takes you round in a circle to remain unresolved as I still can't log in! Could you please arrange for the specialist team to contact me and unlock my self assessment account asap please, this wait is clearly unacceptable?
