From August 2022 to April 2024, I worked in a company which did not provide an office to me. As a result, I need to work from home. As I already submitted the self assessment for both tax year 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. How can I claim back the tax relief due to work from home (preferably online)? Thanks in advance.

Not HMRC, as you have submitted under SA you need to submit amended SA's with the claim for each year within the employment pages for both years.

Thanks. But it seems I can't amend the self assessment for tax year 2022-2023 any more. The guidelines show I should be able to claim back the tax relief for the previous 4 years. Where can I start?

Doing a claim for up to 4 years at once is when someone is dealt with purely via PAYE and hasnt made a claim before, and submits separate forms to claim as not under SA. You can amend 4 years SA returns...but maybe not online, speak to HMRC.

Hi AlbertW,
You can update both of these returns online on your Personal Tax Account
Insert the Working From Home allowance you wish to claim under 'Other Expenses and Capital Allowances' on your Employment pages.
Or contact us by webchat or phone here:
Self Assessment: general enquiries
And we can assist you further.
Thank you.
