Hello. I note that there is no tax to pay on a gift of cash from overseas. However, will you require any paperwork proving the transfer of cash was a gift? What if the gift is made by a relative residing in Belarus? Are there any additional checks and/ or paperwork that is required?

Hi,
You would want evidence to support this in event of any enquiry. Your bank may also require this.
Thank you.

What documents would be appropriate in this case? A written statement by a person giving the cash? Anything else?

Hi,
There is no requirement to report a cash gift to HMRC, as it is not taxable
Thank you.
