My company provide a monthly car allowance rather than a company car. The car is in my name and I pay all associated costs - insurance, servicing, wear and tear etc For business mileage I am being told that the rate for my car (1601 - 2000cc) is 14 pence per mile - when I check the HMRC website, that rate is applicable to company cars only. When I queried this I was told that as I get a car allowance, the car is classed as a company car for mileage purposes Is this correct? If not, which mileage rate is the correct one to use? thanks

Hi,
As your employer pays a mileage rate for use of your car, you can claim the difference as an expense, using the mileage rate at:
Travel — mileage and fuel rates and allowances.
Thank you.
