This is my first tax year with a job. I have two jobs and both make me significantly less than my personal allowance. One tax code is 986L and I only work there over the summer and my main job which I started later has the tax code 270tx. My biggest worry is that I won’t receive a tax refund for my second job(which is my main source of income) because of the tax code. Any advice?

Hi,
At the end of the tax year a reconciliation will occur, where your full allowance will be offset against your total income and any refund would be calculated then.
If the allocated allowances with your tax code 986L is above what you will earn there, meaning you will have some unused that could be allocated to your second job, then you can contact HMRC to change the allocation of your allowances.
Income Tax: general enquiries.
Thank you.
